Background

Project Overview & The Energy Challenge

Jahi Estate sits in Abuja's residential corridor. Pathmark Energy is just starting a compact hybrid plant here: about 100 kW in class, with 90 kW of solar and 96 kW of battery storage. Twelve residents will be metered as the system is commissioned. Like many FCT developments, the estate has lived with load shedding, voltage swings, and costly diesel.

Residents demanded 24/7 uninterrupted power for heavy appliances, home offices, and climate control systems without the noise, pollution, and escalating maintenance overhead of individual standby generators.

Key Operational Pain Points

  • Unreliable Grid Supply

Average availability under 6 hours per day with severe voltage drops.

  • Escalating Fuel Volatility

Diesel costs for individual backup units exceeded ₦4.5M monthly across the estate.

  • Acoustic & Carbon Pollution

Widespread noise pollution and high carbon emissions from decentralized gensets.

Infrastructure Architecture

Solar Generation Farm90 kW

Solar panel installation sized for the first twelve metered homes, with string inverters on dedicated plant structures.

Battery Energy Storage (BESS)96 kW

Battery storage paired with the array so evening and short low-insolation periods can be covered without a household generator.

Prepaid Metering12 residents

Each participating home will receive a smart prepaid meter as the plant is energised and the vending platform is switched on.

Engineering Execution

Pathmark's Hybrid Solution

Pathmark Energy is designing and building a centralized hybrid mini grid so Jahi Estate can move off a diesel-first baseline as the plant comes up.

Daylight solar will serve estate load and charge the 96 kW storage bank. After dusk or during short cloud cover, the batteries carry the metered homes. The build is in its first phase: civil works, array, containers, and metering are being mobilised now rather than presented as a finished operating record.

Commercial Framework

Operating Model & Prepaid Vending

Pathmark will own and operate Jahi Estate under an Energy as a Service model once the plant is energised. Developers and the twelve metered residents are not asked to fund the generation capex.

Smart IoT Metering

Twelve residents will receive digital smart meters linked to Pathmark’s prepaid platform as each home is connected.

Automated Vending

Once live, residents will purchase energy credits via USSD, mobile app, or bank transfer and receive recharge tokens.

24/7 Operations Desk

After commissioning, Pathmark engineers will monitor telemetry from the Abuja operations desk and dispatch maintenance.
